Dear my colleagues, friends and family,
It took me nearly 16 years to arrive at 2021 to talk about my family crisis when I lost my mum from Breast Cancer on 5th February 2005, then 8th April my dad passed away from Colon Cancer post their initial diagnosis as late stage cancers in 2003.
On 5th Feb 2021, I had a “Head Shave” in memory of my parents, particularly my mum when she lost her hair due to the chemo/radio therapies. I shall also give an online talk on 19th Feb. organised by the Oxford Chinese Life Science Society to share my virology understanding based on my wet lab experience working with human viruses started 17 years ago for fundraising at Cancer Research UK.
I wish to get more awareness to the difficult daily life of Cancer patients and emphasise the importance of continuing support for researchers amongst out top tasks on the pandemic, hoping there will be fewer and fewer people getting late stage cancer diagnosis whilst still young, and eventually we will Beat Cancer, Together!

为英国癌症研究基金会募捐： 时钟转至2021，母亲和父亲过世即将16周年之际，我才刚刚学会平心静气地述说那个家庭危机：2003年秋，我的父母亲双双被诊断为癌症晚期，母亲因为乳腺癌转移于2005年2月5日离开了，父亲因为直肠癌转移于同年的4月8日撒手而去。
2021年2月5日为支持英国癌症研究基金而进行的一次自助剃发，并于2月19日受牛津大学华人生命科学学会邀请进行以此线上讲座，希冀与大家分享、探讨我在17年前开始从事的人类病毒研究工作以及对病毒学的理解。谨以此纪念父母亲的16周年祭日，特别纪念我的母亲接受放疗/化疗期间脱发的日子。
我希望通过此次活动，再次呼吁大家理解癌症病人日常生活的困难重重，并且在新冠疫情仍未平息的这个时刻，提醒大家意识到由于新冠疫情、经济不景气和脱欧等事件，导致了很多科学工作者们即将面临研究基金紧缺的现状，呼吁大家我们应该尽全力支持长期从事癌症研究的科学工作者们。希望日后越来越少的人在尚年轻的时候收到“癌症晚期”的诊断。
